hi, all my new friends, i am adi from Bali and have been english teacher for 9 years more. i find it easy to ask my friends learning english to speak / read more english words but really hard for them to do or even to say. They just kept saying it’s hard to do it. My students are quite the same. they tend to stay back of their table if it is the english lesson. I ve been thinking that i am too bad for them. these average students have very little motivation to learn english. if it is not the subject at school

Hi Adin,
I totally understand how hard it is for people to speak English. I am a native English speaker that is trying to learn Thai. Hearing it spoken is part of the learning. Getting my tongue, teeth and lips to make the same sounds it very hard. It is also embarrassing to make mistakes. I learn more when someone makes it fun at the same time.
When I try to help people learn English I use the Spotlight program. We listen to the program and read the script at the same time. Then we talk about it. Most young people have learned a lot of grammar but they don’t have the chance to listen or practice speaking. It’s hard for them to make mistakes in front of their friends.
If you want, you can play a Spotlight program in class and print out the script for the class to read while they listen. It will improve your English too. And don’t forget to print the Word List from the Spotlight web site. Then if a student doesn’t understand a word, you can have them look it up in the Word List and read the definition.
Have fun!
Janine

Hi Adin! Hi Janine! I’m Libni from Quito - Ecuador. I think that teach English it’s not easy, because there isn’t a mental process method that help learners do not confuse the native language with a second language specially. I try to improve my English everyday but there are some things that they don’t have grammatical reasons, then it’s a little bit complicated. Maybe, it’s understandable but not right, that’s way I’d like you correct some of my mistakes that sure I know I have.

Hi all, I am a student of Libni. I agree that learning another laguage is difficult. I think we should seek opportunities that allow us to listen an speak as much or little we’ve learned. Actually there are many tools that help us in learning: internet, Cds, games…But the main thing is to be part of groups that have the same desire to learn and practice English. Libni is an excellent teacher because he directs and gives us many ideas and options that make it more interesting his English classes. Congratulations Libni.

Hi Luisa! Thanks for your appreciation. It’s right what you mean about learning a foreing language. That way it’s important considarate an important thing, English Words is more necessary than English Grammar because is the same situation like a baby. A baby child needs to hear and learn the first words to try to communicate with other, and then to use the English Grammar in right way the structures with the vocabulary learned.
Try vocabulary in many ways like in videos, songs, chatting, forus, your own environment, and this discuss space it’s a good one.
Say, don’t forget correcting me if I have a or some mistakes.
It’s a pleasure datting you!
Libni.

Hi Jenine
I agree about what you wrote above.
In my country,Vietnam, and I think in other countries, people who learn E will tend to do as you describe, they worry to talk, they scare that they will have mistake.
However, to someone, they know that having mistakes to improve and learn more.

Hi everyone. My opinions is ,“it is better to learn first the words as children, they learn to tell whitout study grammar. For my experience it is much more important to associate words with actions, and along the day when you make everything you should think always in English. So you learn grammar automacally, whitout to study its. Best regard Uba.

peace be up on all ..islamic salutation… i see that we have to learn words firstly and then learn grammar because we can not learn grammar without learn the words of that grammar like the key words of the tenses or how to make a question in a particular tense also learning words means learning how to make sentence and how to speak.also when u want to learn a baby his mother tongue u will teach him the words like mum or dad and gradually u will teach him the clauses and sentence then the tenses and so on this is my opinion peace for all bye

I even believe more and more now…. what I observed everyday with my friends practicing English everyday, the more they have words and the truth the better their English are.. the grammar will automatically follow.

Hi Zozza,
I don’t mean we can speak English Orally here. This program, I think is for those who wanna practise in written form.
Oral, I mean here, you may read somebody’s post loud.. you pronounce it orally. this is also great. Do you Ever hear “Crazy English” by Lee Yang (sorry i might be wrong in spelling his name)from China. You can find him on Youtube.
Do you have Skype Sozza? and we can talk with other people around the world freely and we could know their faces as well. Maybe one day, You and I can talk on skype (of course orally)
Nica to meet you here
Regards
Adin
